Recall Aloud Privacy Policy

Recall Aloud is a vocabulary app for the GRE, SAT, ISEE and SSAT, published by Wrightside Labs LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the app on iPhone and Android. Our general privacy policy covers this website.

The short version

• You can study without an account. Without one, everything stays on your phone.
• Your voice is turned into a rating on your phone. We never record, keep or receive what you say.
• There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and we never sell or share your information.
• If you choose to sign in, we keep your sign-in email, your progress and your settings, only so they follow you to your other devices. You can delete your account in the app at any time.
• Apple or Google handles every payment. We never see your card details.

Your voice and the microphone

In a hands-free session, the app listens after each word for the rating you say, such as “five” or “repeat”. It asks for microphone and speech recognition permission before the first time it listens, and you can study by tapping instead.

• On iPhone, Apple’s speech recognition runs on the phone itself.
• On Android, the app uses the phone’s speech recognizer. If the phone does not have its offline English model installed, the phone’s speech service (usually Google’s) may process the audio under that provider’s privacy policy. The app offers to download the offline model.
• The app receives only the words that were heard, uses them to pick your rating, and then discards them. No audio or transcript is stored or sent to us.

What stays on your phone

Your ratings, schedule, starred and archived words, and settings are saved on your phone. The backup code in Settings is made on your phone too; it only goes where you paste it.

Optional sign-in

You can sign in with Apple or Google to keep your progress on more than one device. Signing in is never needed to study. If you sign in, we store:

• the email address your Apple or Google account gives us (with Sign in with Apple you can choose a private relay address instead),
• an account ID, and
• your progress and settings.

We use these only to sync and restore your progress. They are stored with our database provider, Supabase, which processes them on our behalf, and may be stored in the United States. We never use your email for marketing.

To delete your account, go to Settings, then Account, then Delete my account. That deletes your account and the progress stored with it from our servers. Your progress on the phone stays until you delete the app.

Purchases and subscriptions

Subscriptions are bought through the App Store or Google Play, and Apple or Google handles the payment. We use RevenueCat, a subscription service, to check whether your subscription is active. It receives a random ID for your copy of the app and your purchase history from the store. If you sign in, that ID is linked to your account so your subscription follows you. Manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account.

No ads, analytics or tracking

The app contains no advertising, no analytics tools and no crash-reporting services that identify you. It does not track you across other apps or websites.

Emails you send us

“Report a problem” and “Suggest a fix for a word” open your own mail app with a draft. Nothing is sent until you press Send. We use your email only to reply and to fix the problem.

Children

The ISEE and SSAT words are studied by students, some of them under 13. Studying needs no personal information. A child under 13 should not sign in with their own account: the app asks a parent to sign in instead, with the parent’s own Apple or Google account. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without a parent’s consent, we delete it. A parent can email us at hello@wrightsidelabs.com to review or delete anything stored for their child.

How long we keep information

• On your phone: until you erase your progress in Settings or delete the app.
• With your account: until you delete the account, then it is removed from our servers.
• Emails: only as long as needed to help you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including the EU, the UK and California, you can ask to see, correct, export or delete the information we hold about you. Delete your account in the app, or email us at hello@wrightsidelabs.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EU or UK, we process account data to provide the sync you asked for, and you may complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If a change is significant, we will say so in the app.
